Job Interview

Interviews are stressful - even for job seekers who have gone on several interviews. An effective way to reduce the stress is to be prepared. What were your reasons for leaving your last job?
 
My last job was an interesting one that gave me the opportunity and challenges to achieve high results. For instance, when I first took up the job, I was exposed to learning a lot. However, I later discovered that I was actually gaining knowledge in areas that I previously didn't have the skills and experience. In all, this gave me the opportunity to increase my skills to be able to handle the demands any future job might require.

Sometimes we do our utmost best, but fail to reach the required target. What experience do you have regarding this situation?
 
In fact, I haven't had many failures of that kind in my career. The closest I have experienced was during my involvement in a project with other team members when we faced a few problems including a lack of funds. While we executed the required task, the project was later postponed.

Give an example of a time when your supervisor talked to you about your perfomance?
 
Although the question doesn't mention your poor performance, as such see this as an opportunity to emphasize on your successful performance.

This is a good chance to demonstrate your key ability to successfully resolve difficult issues. Also, it's important to mention or give example of your initiative and tendency to take up responsibilties.

Do you prefer working alone or within a team?
 
I have worked alone in many instances, I prefer team spirit as this allow for more interactions between team members while working for a common goal. In addition, it's a good experience to work in a team because this is an opportunity to share knowledge and learn from others. A team approach to problem solving is quicker and more productive.

Do you consider yourself a self-starter?
 
I do and never rely on others to do the initiative. My work experience and education mean that I am well prepared to recognize potential issues and for the successful accomplishment of any given task.

How do you show interest in and keep in contact with your colleagues?
 
I make sure that I have a good idea about what my colleagues want, their personal feelings and what they expect from me. I show interest by attending regular meetings, discussions and taking special interest in their work and achievements.

Yes, I am a member of the British Computer Society, which has given me the opportunity to attend technology seminars thereby increasing my general awareness in the latest technological trends.

Some key steps I take before making an important decision include analysing all areas and possible results. Anticipating potential issues that can affect my decision. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
 
In the next five years, I expect to progress through Web Content Designer to the position of a Senior Content Manager. During this time, I will have further opportunity to improve my technical skills and acquired content development and management skills.

Have you had interview with other companies recently? What was the outcome?
 
You have to be careful here because this is a tricky question. Never admit or say that you were unsuccessful at other interviews. Plainly say,

I haven't had any recent interviews, however in the past a high precentage of my interviews resulted in job offers. The employers recognized my skills and experience and thus offered me positions of increased responsibilities.

This may be the most important question in every job interview. Take some time as you need preparing your answer.

Firstly, I believe I'm well qualified for this job and able to make a significant contribution to your company. This position suits my skills, experience and ability and it'll give me the opportunity to advance my career. Finally, the reputation of your company was a significant consideration, which influenced my decision to apply for this position.

This is a good opportunity to mention your skills. Let them know that you've researched about the company. Mention the company' mission statement, its locations, people and what its products or area of business. Put yourself in your employer position and let them know everything you can do for them when given the job.

What particular strengths and qualifications would you bring to his job?
 
Here it's important to mention and emphasize the capabilities and strengths that you will bring to the job and company.
