Heat The Solution:
The ammonia and water solution's cleaning action works best if you first heat it to a boil. To do this, put the solution in the microwave for about two minutes. Unless you like sparks, don't put your ring in the solution while heating in the microwave. The metal setting could short out your microwave and damage your ring in the process.
Soak:
Once the solution is heated, remove it from the microwave and place your diamond jewelry into the solution. Depending on how dirty your jewelry is, you should let it soak in ammonia/water mix for from five to ten minutes.
Brush:
All that soaking in the hot cleaning bath will by now have either removed or softened the dirty and oily residue. Remove the ring from the solution and apply a little regular dish soap to an old tooth brush. Gently scrub your diamond. Make sure to brush from all angles, especially the back of the diamond where most of the dirty residue usually accumulates.
Sometimes this brushing can loosen your ring's prongs a bit so it is best to have them examined at once a year to make sure they are still secure
Rinse:
Once thoroughly brushed, it's time to rinse your ring. Rinse in warm water and gently dry.
